We support charities that are close to our heart, like the Thembalitsha Foundation and Young Bafana. In December and January our staff pulled together behind People and Culture manager, Karlien Scholtz, when she first cycled by mountain bike off-road with a likeminded group of cyclists between Cape Town and Knysna and then swam the Robben Island crossing to raise funds for the Herberg Orphanage in Robertson.
The 6 day 650 kilometre CA 2 CX cycle was a gruelling event over mountain ranges but in the end Karlien said that the money raised and awareness created made it all worthwhile. Global staff chipped in by donating food parcels, Christmas gifts and money and Nadeema drove through to Robertson to drop off the items.
Karlien followed this up with the almost 8 kilometre Robben Island crossing swim in challenging conditions with two fellow Herberg Orphanage supporters. In the end, the two events raised more than R400,000.
Herberg’s house matron stated that people will never know what a big impact this support has had on the children, as it is not just about the items that have been donated but the fact that the children know someone cares about them.
Thank you for everyone’s support and well done Karlien and team!
